Orchestral Programs

Orchestral Programs

The DYAO has three levels of orchestras for our participants.  To determine which ensemble might be best for your student, be sure to download a copy of our proficiency standards.  If you have questions please contact us at info@dyao.org.

Young Artists Orchestra

The Young Artists Orchestra is the most advanced of our ensembles.  YAO is conducted by Music Director Wes Kenney.  Membership is open to musicians between the ages of 13 and 23.  Participation is determined by an audition.  They perform four to six concerts annually, including one side-by-side concert with the Colorado Symphony.  Students receive regular professional coachings throughout the season and attend an overnight retreat in September.  Concerts are performed at Boettcher Concert Hall and Gates Concert Hall.  Composed of approximately 90 members, DYAO rehearses Saturday mornings from 9:00am-12:30pm at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music (2344 E Iliff Ave, Denver).Past repertoire for the orchestra includes Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Brahms’ Symphonies 1, 3, and 4, Dvorak’s Symphonies 6, 7 and 9, and Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet Suite No. 2.

Conservatory Orchestra

The Conservatory Orchestra is an advanced level ensemble for students who want to advance their orchestral performance skills for advancement into the Young Artists Orchestra and collegiate programs.  The Conservatory Orchestras perform three concerts annually in conjunction with the String Ensemble.
