Title: Agave Violin

I like to use the abstraction suggested by nature as a starting point. Looking deeply at my surroundings with a camera and finding abstraction in chance composition, I find my intuition is heightened and I become more sensitive: I can see beauty in everything. To juxtapose the sharpness of the photographic image with texture and brush stroke creates an optical illusion; what is real?

Born in Berkeley, California, Joanna has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a Masters of Fine Arts in Integrated Electronic Art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibits in galleries throughout Colorado and New York. While residing in New York, Joanna taught several classes and workshops on intuitive painting techniques. During that same period she expanded on the theme of photographic collage with oil on canvas. She currently resides in Englewood where she continues to work in this medium.
