As part of the student musician’s experience, DYAO holds concerto competitions for all five of its orchestras. The winners will play their concertos with their orchestras. Each concerto participant works for months preparing his/her concerto, which is performed for and judged by local music professionals. Our young musicians learn discipline, perseverance, and professional etiquette. The concerto competition is free for our students, and is made possible because of the generosity of our donors.
The 2016-2017 Wind Concerto Competition took place at Colorado State University’s Griffin Concert Hall on September 10, 2016, and the 2016-2017 Concerto Competition for all instruments took place at the Newman Center’s Hamilton Hall on December 3 and 4, 2016.
